Do not place money above life, says Pinarayi Vijayan

Kochi: Stating that private hospitals should not deny treatment to poor patients under any circumstances, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday said action will be taken in the recent incident in which a migrant labourer died without getting treatment on the basis of an inquiry report.

“Certain private hospitals are levying exorbitant charges for treatment after asking the patients to undergo unnecessary tests. This should not be the case. The hospitals should give priority on saving the lives rather than factors such as whether the patient could afford the treatment or not. All hospitals should be made patient-friendly,” Vijayan said.
Murugan, a Tamil Nadu native, met with a road accident at Kollam last week while riding pillion on a motorcycle. He finally succumbed to his injuries hours later after at least four hospitals refused to admit him.
