Lightning kills five in Anantapur

The lightning struck the shed sending shock waves and killing five persons on the spot.

Anantapur: In a tragic incident, five farm labourers were killed and four others suffered serious injuries after lightning stuck at Kalugodu village in Gummagatta mandal in the district on Sunday.

The incident occurred when lightning hit a zinc sheet shed in which shepherds and farm labourers had taken shelter due to heavy rains.

The deceased were identified as N. Karim, 25; K. Obanna, 35; Jangam Jayanna, 60; Giri Reddy, 40; and B. Shivappa of Kalugodu area.

Kalyanadurgam RDO K. Rama Rao said about 10 farm labourers were on cultivation practices along with sheep rearing on the outskirts of Kalugodu village.

The lightning struck the shed sending shock waves and killing five persons on the spot. Four others — B. Anil, Bommaiah, Venkatesh and J. Mallaiah went to deep shock with injuries. All of them shifted to Rayadurgam hospital.
