Voter IDs, lists dumped near pond, create flutter in Kancheepuram

Chennai: Authorities on Saturday seized scores of voters’ identity card and hundreds of voters’ list from near a pond in Orikkai village in Kancheepuram.

Public noticed the documents scattered around near a gunny bag on Saturday morning and informed the revenue officials and police.

Officials found that voters ID and list was from Uthiramerur area, nearly 15 km away from the spot where the items were found. Kancheepuram taluk police rushed to thescene and seized all the items while district collector had dispatched sub collector Arun Thamburaj, to the scene to conduct a probe.

District administration indicated that all the voters ID and list looked discarded and may not be current. “Even if it is old and discarded by the administration, one should be dumping such documents in public. A probe has been ordered into the incident,” a senior officer from Kancheepuram district administration said.
