Hyderabad: Student's suicide-bid thwarted

The 20 year old student was studying in Vijaya Nagar Junior College and was a resident of New Mallepally in Hyderabad.

Hyderabad: A second year intermediate student who failed in two subjects has tried to jump and commit suicide in the tank bund lake on Saturday afternoon. The lake police officials noticed her movements and averted the suicide. 

The officials of Lake Police were strictly conducting regular checks around the necklace road area to avoid such acts by the students, police said, as it was results day and many children tend to take such extreme measures due to poor scoring.  

The 20 year old student was studying in Vijaya Nagar Junior College and was a resident of New Mallepally in Hyderabad. 

“The girl was about to jump into the Hussain Sagar lake at upper tank bund, opposite to Annamacharya statue when the patrolling police noticed were and was brought Lake Police Station” said the Police Inspector of Lake police, B. Dhana Laxmi. 

It was revealed during the enquiry that she had failed in two subjects in the recent intermediate exams and due to which, she went into depression and decided to end her life. 

“She was promptly counselled and was later handed over to her parents who were called upon to the station” added the official.
