Coimbatore: Worker loses hand trying to catch train

Coimbatore: In a shocking incident, a daily wages labour lost one of his hands while trying to catch a running train at Coimbatore junction on Tuesday.

Poomari, 33, daily wages labourer, native of Rameshwaram came to Coimbatore a few months ago and was working here.

Poomari was planning to settle down in Chennai.  Meanwhile, on Tuesday morning he travelled to Chennai in search of a new job.

Poomari came to Coimbatore junction around 6.15 am to catch the Intercity express heading Chennai. The train started to move before Poomari could reach the platform, he ran along with train while making an attempt to get into the running compartment, he fell between the wheels.

People at the platform and passengers in the train were shocked to see the incident every one raised alarm, one among the passengers stopped the train by pulling emergency chain.

Railway police rescued him with the help of railway staffs. Poomari was admitted in Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) and being treated.

Poomari lost his left hand in the accident, who also suffered serious injuries in his right hand and head. Railway police have lodged a complaint, further investigations are on.
