Alappuzha: The health department has taken steps to prevent the outbreak of epidemics in areas hit by the floods recently. Enough number of doctors will be posted in the areas. Those who suffer from persisting cough, throat pain and respiratory problems should seek medical assistance, said the department. They should cover their mouths with clothes while coughing, avoid contact with others and abstain from workplace and public spaces, the officials said.

Pregnant women and people who having high blood pressure and chronic diseases should consult doctors if they are down with low degree fever.  H1 N1 can be cured easily without lab test. The medicine against H1N1 is available with all Karunya medical stores. Free medical assistance is available in all government hospitals. Those who need help can contact toll-free number: 1056, the officials said.

Those who walk in contaminated water at inundated places should wash their legs with soap. Workers in paddy fields, wetlands, canal cleaners and fishers should take preventive medicines every week on the instruction of doctors. Cleaning workers should wash their hand and legs with soap, said the officials.
