Hyderabad: A two-judge bench of the Telangana High Court adjourned on technical grounds a fresh writ plea filed by the Congress’ Nampally candidate Feroz Khan, who complained that the Election Commission of India (ECI) had failed to prepare and produce a list of voters who were absent, had shifted to another place or dead, and duplicate voters.

The petitioner said that the absence of such a list would open up the possibility of bogus voting.

Even as the petitioner's counsel informed the court of the nature of his grievance, Avinash Desai, senior advocate appearing for the ECI, pointed out that such a list was prepared only after the withdrawal of nominations.

Desai said the list will be ready at the appropriate time for use by the returning officers. He suggested that the grievance was premature.

The petitioner then pointed out that if the candidates were not privy to such a list, it would seriously hamper the confidence quotient in the electoral process.

The bench pointed out that no such relief was sought and posted the matter to November 20 to enable the petitioner to enlarge the scope of his petition.
