Hyderabad: Protesting students of Eflu called off their hunger strike on Tuesday, after the university’s administration began looking for a new Proctor to replace Prof T. Srivani, removed Prof T. Samson and called for applications to take the place of Vice Chancellor Prof E. Suresh Kumar, whose-one year extension ended in June.

The protests began after a student reported sexual assault on the campus on October 18. After weeks of protest, the university agreed to remove Prof. Srivani last week. With students getting ready to seek legal recourse, the administration on Tuesday called for applications from candidates for the post of VC.

Commenting on the administration’s announcement, which virtually meant the removal of Prof. Kumar, a student leader said: “This is the victory of student unity.”

The assault of the girl student was reported after she joined a protest demonstration which sought the reinstatement of SPARSH (Sensitization, Preventing and Redressal of Sexual Harassment) panel. Prof. Kumar had scrapped the SPARSH panel.
