Legislative Assembly approves land passbooks, gaming laws

Hyderabad: The Legislative Assembly on Monday adopted The Telangana Rights in Land and Pattadar Pass Books (Amendment) Bill, 2017 and The Telangana Gaming (Amendment ) Bill, 2017. The two legislations amend the existing laws enacted decades ago to suit the present needs. Deputy CM and revenue minister Mohd Mahmood Ali who introduced the first Bill said the Act was being amended to cancel the existing pattadar passbooks and issue new ones based on the findings of the land survey. He said the old passbooks could be easily tampered with due to which several land litigations had piled up over the years. 

Mr Ali said the government would issue ‘smart pattadar passbooks’ which has more security features than a passport. Home minister Nayani Narasimha Reddy, who introduced the Gaming (Amendment) Bill, 2017 said the Act was being amended to include bring online gambling under its ambit. He said after the state government had ordered a crackdown on gambling clubs, it was found that gamblers were opting for online gambling.
