Kozhikode: The Muslim coordination committee, a joint forum of the community organisations, has sought the intervention of the legislature to protect the moral and family-based values of the country.

Expressing concerns over the recent Supreme Court judgments of decriminalising homosexuality and nullifying extramarital affair as a criminal offence, the forum demanded the law to protect the 'eternal values.'

"Our culture is based on family values which serve protection and good upbringing of individuals. The court verdict decriminalising homosexuality will come against such long-cherished values," said the committee.

"The verdict on the women entry at Sabarimala and the ordinance which makes divorce a criminal offence is examples of illegitimate encroachment into civilian's beliefs and religious life."

The committee foresees all these as a prelude to implementing the uniform civil code in the country. It will resist such moves in unison through legal means.

Sayed Sadiqali Shihab Thangal presided over the meet. P.K Kunhalikutty MP, K.P.A. Majeed, M.P. Abdussamad Samadani, M.C. Mayin Haji (IUML), Dr Fasal Gafoor (MES), K.T. Hamza Musliyar, T.P. Abdullakoya Madani, Dr Hussain Madavoor (Kerala Nadvathul Mujahiddin), Sheikh Mohammed Karakunnu (Jamaat-e-Islami) and representatives of WISDOM and state Jamiyyathul Ulama participated.
