Chennai: Show-cause notice issued to student

The students were identified based on footage from television channels and videos taken by their personnel.

Chennai: City police have sent show-cause notices to at least 100 college students asking them why cops shouldn’t initiate action against them for ‘triggering’ students’ protest against Neet in various parts of the city.

“Why shouldn’t we initiate action against you under section 107 of CrPC that attracts a fine amount of Rs 5000 and a minimum imprisonment of six months,?” a show cause notice issued to a city student S Manjula read. Muthialpet police issued the notice to the student of Bharathi women’s college on September 12 demanding a reply by Wednesday evening.

According to sources, similar notices were issued to several students- most of them affliated to the Students’ Federation of India (SFI), Revolutionary Students’ Youth Federation (RSYF) and other students’ related outfits. The students were identified based on footage from television channels and videos taken by their personnel. 

The concerned students are expected to appear before the police stations and give a binding that they won’t indulge in any incidents in the next six months.
