Kadem project repaired, water being stored

ADILABAD: With Kadem irrigation project having been repaired, officials have started storing flood water. The storage has reached 5 TMC against its full capacity of 7 TMC.

Irrigation officials are planning to give water to farmers under the ayacut before August 25. Sources say they may even release the water on August 15 and give a pleasant surprise to farmers.      

Farmers have started appealing to officials for water to save their standing crops, especially paddy. The area of paddy cultivation is high under the canals of Kadem, Luxettipet and Jannaram areas.

According to sources, one Swapna Enterprises of Hyderabad has repaired the damaged crest gates by carrying out welding works and replacing some damaged parts. The company has also put in place new iron ropes. Greasing works have also been completed.

It is said officials are now able to operate all the 18 gates without any problems.
