Hyderabad: Telangana Junior Doctors Association conducted protests outside all government medical colleges in the state demanding an increase in the stipends and to make it at par with central institutes like that of Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences.

The Association stated that they have given representations to the government from December 2017 to increase their stipends but there is no response yet. TJUDA president Dr P.S. Vijayender explained, “Our demands were rejected thrice by the health department and TS junior doctors are the lowest paid in South India. Karnataka and Tamil Nadu are paying between Rs 30,000 to Rs 40,000 and Kerala are paying Rs 43,000 to 45,000 per month. But we are being paid only Rs 27,000 to Rs 31,000 per month.”

It is high time the stipends are increased as junior doctors bear the complete patient burden in government hospitals.” The doctors have warned that if the government is not going to relent to their demands and set up an expert committee to evaluate their pending issues then they will resort to strike.
