Landslides, rain hit traffic in Dakshina Kannada, Kodagu

The Joint Director of Collegiate Education has also declared holiday to colleges in Udupi, DK and Kodagu.

Traffic on Madikeri-Mangaluru road was affected because of landslides on Monday KPN

Mangaluru/Udupi: Incessant rains accompanied by gusty wind resulted in landslides and uprooting of trees at several places in the coastal region on Monday. In the wake of the forecast of heavy rainfall, the district administrations of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada have declared holiday for schools and PU colleges on Tuesday. The Joint Director of Collegiate Education has also declared holiday to colleges in Udupi, DK and Kodagu. 

The NH was blocked twice on Monday in the Shiradi Ghat because of landslides. The highway was cleared for traffic within hours. Traffic on NH 275 was affected because of landslides near Madikeri. Traffic was affected after some trees fell on Kukke Subramanya-Gundya road. A car was reportedly damaged when a tree fell on it at Ichlampady village. In Udupi district, two cattle sheds and three houses were damaged in the rain. 

With the water level in Linganamakki reservoir rising, officials have asked the people living downstream to shift to safer places.  The water level at Linganmakki reservoir reached 1,812.75 feet as against the maximum level of 1,819 feet. The inflow was 41,645 cusecs. If the inflow into the reservoir increases, the excess water from the dam will be released anytime. Thus, those living downstream and on the banks of the river have been asked to move to safer places.
