Kerala floods: Wayanad not out of woods yet

The four shutters of the dam have been wide opened up to 150m height.

Kozhikode: Wayand is still reeling under heavy rains and landslides. Minor landslides took place in the wee hours of Monday at Kurichiarmala under Kalpetta forest range and near Pookod Navodaya School. Landslides were reported also in the catchment areas of Banasura Sagar dam.

The four shutters of the dam have been wide opened up to 150m height. The gushing water has triggered flood in low-lying areas of Kalpetta. Water level at Banasura Sagar reservoir is at 775.6 MSL on Monday. Wayanad received 68.3 mm rain on Monday with maximum reported in Vythiri taluk. District collector has announced a holiday for all educational institutions including professional colleges in Wayanad on Tuesday.

In Kozhikode, landslide occurred in Maripuzha in Anakkampoyil, isolating 20 families in the region on Monday. At the review meeting chaired by Revenue Minister E. Chandrasekharan, the loss in the district was estimated to the tune of '228 crore. As many as 92 houses were completely damaged and 2577 were partially damaged in the district. 1,028 people are in 11 relief camps as on Monday.
