SFI upset over invite to Nehru group CEO

Palakkad: The district leadership of SFI in Palakkad has come out against the decision of the management of CPM mouthpiece Desabhimani for inviting the CEO and secretary of Nehru group P. Krishnakumar, who is the brother of P.K. Krishnadas who is an accused in the suicide Jishnu Pranoy, an SFI leader at the Nehru College of Engineering and Research Centre in Pampady.

Mr Krishnakumar has been invited by Desabhimani to deliver a felicitation speech at the event held in Coimbatore for the inauguration of the daily's bureau there on Sunday.

SFI district functionaries said here on Saturday that they had asked its state committee to take a position in the matter. "Our protest and legal struggle against the Nehru Group of Institutions will continue in the Jisnhu case," they said.

Jishnu was found hanging in the bathroom of his hostel room on the evening of January 6, 2017.

While the college authorities claim that he was caught copying during the exam and that led to him committing suicide, his family members and friends allege that college
authorities had put a false blame on him after seizing his answer paper while he was writing the exam. They also allege that Jishu was brutally beaten up inside the 'torture room' of the college and that led to his death.

Jishnu's mother Mahija told media persons at Kozhikode on Satruday that those who have now invited the CEO of Nehru Group to the Desabhimani needed to know who her son was.

Earlier, Shornur MLA P.K. Sasi had courted controversy by attending a function of a medical college in Ottapalam under Nehru Group and delivered a speech by showering praises on the group.

Former Palakkad MP M.B. Rajesh had made a covert attack on P.K. Krishnadas, the managing trustee of the group, after his unexpected loss in the Lok Sabah polls this May saying that an owner of a self-financing college had worked for his defeat in Palakkad.
