SFI national president apologises
The three main ideas of independence, democracy and socialism have caught the imagination of lakhs of students across the country.
Thiruvananthapuram: SFI national president V.P. Sanu on Saturday apologised to the people of the state for the attack on Akhil Chandran, a student of University College, on Friday. “Those involved in the attack were not members of the organisation but traitors. The organisation will deal with such elements,” he said in a Facebook post.
“Traitors have thrown this organisation its white flag, slogans and martyrdom of valiant comrades before the forces who want to tear it bit by bit,” he said.
“Those who held people together, who fought and bled on the streets fighting for the rights of students, who stood for making campuses culturally active, who laid down their lives for independence and democracy, who held the folk songs sung by Akhil close to their hearts and who loved literature and art are the true protectors of this organisation,” he said.
The action of a small group of people has shattered the goodwill generated by SFI through its valiant fight, he said.
The slogans inscribed on the white flag of SFI are not meaningless, he stressed. The three main ideas of independence, democracy and socialism have caught the imagination of lakhs of students across the country. Therefore, the mindless actions of a section cannot be allowed to cast a shadow over the SFI. It cannot betray those who look forward to the organisation in the present dark days, he said.
“Wrong-doers cannot be justified at any cost. The accused will never be protected. What we need is not decimation but correction. We need to go forward making amends and rising up to the sacrifices made by martyrs,” he added.
