Outside prison, S Nalini likely to stay in Chennai

VELLORE: Based on the 30 days ordinary leave granted to S. Nalini (52), a life convict in the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination case, by the Madras High Court on Friday, Nalini is expected to spend her time outside prison in her brother’s house in Kotturpuram, Chennai, and conduct her daughter’s wedding. It is said that as a standby, just in case official permission is not granted to the proposal, Nalini would opt to rent a house in Vellore itself and stay there. It may be recalled that in the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination case, Nalini was lodged in the Vellore  special jail for women and her husband Murugan, who is also one among the seven convicts, is lodged in the Vellore Prison for men. Through her  advocate P. Pugalenthi, Nalini had moved a petition at the Madras High Court  seeking parole for six months during which time she wanted to arrange the wedding  ceremony of her daughter, Harithra.

Responding to her petition, The Madras High Court had granted 30 days of ordinary leave for Nalini to get her mission done, and also sought details of her stay outside the prison. After meeting Nalini in prison on Saturday, advocate P. Pugalenthi said that all details that the court sought had been handed over to concerned officials and that Nalini would come out on July 17. Her husband Murugan had however not sought parole.
