Peddapalli: It is a known fact that the sunrise and sunset timings depend on the day, date, season of the year and on the locations on either side of the International Date line.

But in Kodurupaka village of Sultanabad mandal in Peddapalli district, the timings of sunrise and sunset are entirely different.

A good way to see what causes this difference in timings is to travel to Kodurupaka village which is 15 kms away from the mandal headquarters of Peddapalli district.

Kodurupaka village is surrounded by four mountains and the villagers call these mountains with different names. The mountain in the East is called Golla gutta, the one in the West is Ranganayakula gutta to the North is called Laxminarasimha gutta and the mountain present in the South is called Pamula gutta.

Due to the presence of Golla gutta mountain in the East, the sunrise timing is late by an hour as compared to other places in the region. Because of the Ranganayakula gutta present in the West, which is huge in size, the sun sets early at about 3.30 pm, as a result the entire village turns dark by 5 pm.

The people from the village who go out for work return to their houses by 5 pm. Lights are turned on as early as 5.30 pm in the evening. People in the surrounding areas of this village, call this village ‘Mudu Jamula Kodurupaka’.

Not only in summer, but in the rains and in winter, the timings of sunrise and sunset are totally different as compared to other places in that region.

Since the village is cradled in the mountains, the temperature in summer is a bit higher—around 2°C to 3°C .

Villager Yerra Sambaiah said that the beautiful sight of nature with the greenery of the four mountains makes the Kodurupaka village a unique tourist destination for outsiders.

The ‘Hussain Miya Wagu’ in the village along with ‘Sri Laxminambuladri Swamy Temple’ attract many tourists, he added. He urged the government to declare Kodurupaka village a tourist place and take necessary steps for transforming this village into a beautiful tourist destination.
