New Delhi: In a significant development, the Lucknow- based Central Shia Waqf Board has urged the Law Commission on Wednesday to come out with a Uniform Civil Code for all religions including Muslims as it would help rid discrimination against women.

In response to the Law Commission seeking suggestions on the Uniform Civil Code from across the country, Syed Waseem Rizvi, chairman of U.P.Shia Central Waqf Board, pointed out that Goa has a Common Civil Code since 1965, which is applicable on all its citizens.

He said if UCC can be implemented in Goa, then it can be enforced throughout the country.
