Hyderabad: The Telangana state police said its website was safe from the malware attack that had affected over 100 nations worldwide. The police also issued a safety advisory against the ransomware.

Director General of Police (technical services) T. Krishna Prasad advised citizens not to open unknown emails, links, and .rar folders which could be carrying WannaCry malware that has affected computers globally.

Officials who are monitoring the ransomware said that the hackers were found demanding money up to $600 to regain access to their own computers.

Mr Pradipto Chakrabarty, regional director, CompTIA India, said the ransomware had the potential to lockdown the health infrastructure.

“In an increasingly digitized world, we are all becoming extremely vulnerable to misuse of personal, professional and even national security data. We receive at least 10-15 cyber crime complaints on a daily basis and many of those cases deal with financial fraud,” he said, adding that netizens should be extra careful to avoid falling prey to the ransomware.
