Women beat men in Andhra Pradesh voter turnout

A total of 3.13 crore of the 3.93 crore voters exercised their franchise in the April 11 elections.

Vijayawada: The turnout of voters in the April 11 Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections was officially put at 79.64 per cent — 1.23 per cent more than what was recorded in the 2014 elections. For the Lok Sabha elections, it was recorded at 79.74 per cent. The calculation of the final poll percentage took time as polling went on till the pre-dawn hours of Friday in some booths.

A total of 3.13 crore of the 3.93 crore voters exercised their franchise in the April 11 elections. Women outnumbered the men in casting their vote.

Around 1.57 crore wom-en cast their votes while the number of men voted was 1.55 crore. Prakasam district with 85.93 per cent registered the highest voter turnout among the 13 districts while Vizag with 71.81 per cent was the lowest.  In Visakhapatnam and West Godavari districts, the voter turnout fell below the levels recorded in 2014 while Kurnool saw more voters exercising their franchise than five years ago.

Srikakulam registered 75.14 per cent, Viziana-garam 80.68 per cent, East Godavari 80.08 per cent, West Godavari 82.19 per cent, Krishna 81.12 per cent, Guntur 82.37 per cent, Nellore 76.68 per cent, Kadapa 77.21 per cent, Kurnool 77.68 per cent, Anantapur 81.90 per cent and Chittoor 81.03 per cent.
