Hyderabad: Police booked a mandal revenue officer (MRO) for allegedly helping six persons encroach on government land and sell it to individual buyers.

Based on court directions, the Maheshwaram police on Tuesday booked R.P. Jyothi, the then MRO-cum-joint sub-registrar of Maheshwaram mandal, and Kondapaplly Sridhar Reddy, owner of EIPL Constructions, and five others. Jyothi is presently MRO of Amangal.

The case pertains to the transfer of 42 acres of government lands in Survey No. 181 in Nagaram of Maheshwaram under Ranga Reddy district, a police official said.

“We have registered cases under sections 420 and 166 of the IPC and Section 156 (3) of the CrPC,” the cop said.

The court issued the orders after hearing a petition that alleged that the MRO misused her powers to create fake registry deeds in collusion with Sridhar Reddy, who sold the government lands with Jyothi’s consent.

The petitioner, Dastagir Shareef, 61, identified the other accused as Khaderunnisa, Mohd Munawar Khan, Bobbili Damodar Reddy, Bobbili Viswanath Reddy and N. Santosh Kumar.

The case is likely to be transferred to a special team, a police officer said.
