Hyderabad: The driver of an RTC bus was killed and five passengers suffered serious injuries when the bus rammed into a truck which was taking a turn to the other side of the road by crossing over a road divider in Hayathnagar. There were nearly 25 passengers in the bus which was coming from Vijayawada to Hyderabad, police said.

Police said the deceased Md Mushtaq, 40, hailing from Krishna district, was working as a driver at the Governorpet depot in VIjayawada. On Friday night he was on duty on a super luxury bus. Around 3.30 am on Saturday when the bus reached Batasingaram village, a truck loaded with chalk dust which was travelling ahead, suddenly took a right turn and tried to cross on to the other side of the road by jumping the divider.

“By the time the bus reached the spot the truck had already crossed more than half to the other side. The bus driver did not see the truck and rammed the bus into the truck’s rear,” said SI B. Sreenu.

The bus driver got stuck in the cabin and died on the spot. Two passengers broke their legs and three others suffered injuries and are undergoing treatment at a nearby hospital.

Based on a complaint from RTC officials a case of causing death and injuries was registered against the truck driver and a hunt is on for him. The body of the bus driver was handed over to his family after postmortem.
