Bengaluru: The BBMP is planning to use the upcoming Sankranthi festival to achieve two goals. One is to remove black spots, where garbage is dumped indiscriminately, by putting rangolis in the area and to take the help of pourakarmikas and volunteers to get this work done without any major cost to the exchequer.

"During Deepavali, our pourakarmikas drew rangolis at major black spots in the city. The intention was to gather the locals and to make them realise that they should not dump garbage at these spots," a BBMP official said.

He said the same concept will be adopted for Sankranthi too. "Our pourakarmikas and volunteers from The Ugly Indians will join hands to clean up black spots. This will help the city get a good rating in the Swacha Sarvekshana ratings," he said.

"During Deepavali, with the help of Ugly Indians, we were able to get rid of nearly 400 black spots in the city," he said. "For any project to be successful, we need the help of citizens. So it is with black spots. The Sankranthi Rangoli Habba will start across the city from January 15 and go on till January 25," the official said.
