Vellore: AG Perarivalan leaves jail on parole

Perarivalan alias Arivu, was granted the month-long parole.

Vellore: Convicted in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, A. G. Perarivalan, was released on parole on Tuesday morning, and he will be proceeding to his house in Jolarpet.

Sources said, Perarivalan alias Arivu, was granted the month-long parole due to reasons like attending to his 76-year-old sick father, T. Gnanasekaran, and also to attend a wedding and reception ceremonies of his niece.

“On Tuesday morning, Perarivalan was shifted from Puzhal jail to Vellore jail, and later, he was released on parole,” said a prison department official.

Around 10:40 a.m., Perarivalan was escorted by a 15-member police team and taken to Jolarpet in a police van. He was shifted from the Puzhal prison to Vellore, as police personnel from Vellore have to provide him with an escort.

“He will be handed over at the Vellore prison once the parole term ends,” said a police officer. Perarivalan, has been in prison serving life imprisonment.
