Regional Meteorological Centre has forecast more rains or thundershower at many places over South Tamil Nadu and at a few places over North Tamil Nadu and Puducherry in coming few days.

Chennai: Chennai and other coastal districts of Tamil Nadu would experience heavy rains from Monday due to a low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal.

“The location of the low-pressure area in the southwest Bay of Bengal is unchanged. We expected heavy rain from Sunday. But the wind pattern and their speed prevented the rainfall inland, as the rain poured into the sea. Due to this, dry weather prevailed over the state”, said S. Balachandran, Director, Area Cyclone Warning Centre.

Nevertheless, the forecast bulletin of RMC cited that isolated places in north coastal Tamil Nadu would get heavy rainfall on Monday. “The sky condition in Chennai is likely to be generally cloudy. A few spells of rain or thundershowers are likely to occur”, according to the forecast.

Dry weather that lasted for the day ended at night when many parts of the city saw steady drizzle for quite some time.

An inference of India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that the low-pressure area with an associated cyclonic circulation persists in the southwest Bay of Bengal and it is likely to become more marked.
