Kodagu rains recede, 2 more bodies found

However there is no trace of seven others who went missing after the incident.

Mysuru: After seven days of an unrelenting deluge,  the rains in Kodagu declined drastically on Monday.

Meanwhile,  two more bodies were found taking the death toll to nine in Kodagu.

Teams of the NDRF, Garuda force and police on Monday found the body of Anasooya (35), who was missing and was suspected to be buried under mud after four to five houses collapsed due to landslides on Friday at Tora region in Heggala village of Virajpet taluk.

However there is no trace of seven others who went missing after the incident.

The body of 65-year-old Maraati Kiyyanna was found at his home which was flooded at  Parambu Paisaari in Kattemaadu village in Madikeri taluk. Three more relief centres were started and 1,270 more people were shifted on Monday too. In all 7,873  people are housed in  45 relief centres in Kodagu.    

As many as 147 houses are partially damaged and 90 completely damaged. On Monday, as many as 766 more people were rescued from dangerous conditions. So far the rescue teams have rescued  1507 people  and 18 cows. Kodagu recorded 24.76 mm of rainfall from 8.30am on Sunday to 8.30am on Monday.

Meanwhile the Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert, predicting heavy rainfall of 64.5mm to 115.5mm in isolated places from  August 13 to 17 in Malnad areas including Kodagu, Chikkamagaluru, Shivamogga and Hassan, and in coastal Karnataka including Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada districts.
