Belagavi: Parents of late DySP, Kallappa Handibag, have  lodged a complaint with the Belagavi police  blaming Chikamagaluru Superintendent of Police, Santosh Babu and other senior officials for his suicide.

They also submitted a letter to DySP Satish Chitguppi at Athani appealing for action against Mr  Babu and other senior officials  who they claimed had driven their son to take his own life.

“Our son was an able and honest officer, who was forced to kill himself as his seniors  accused him of corruption. The Chikamagaluru SP hatched a conspiracy against our son,” they charged in their complaint. The officer's parents said he had often complained over the phone about the mental harassment he was suffering as a result of Mr Babu and other senior officials.

“But we did not think in our wildest dreams that he would  end his life because of this. Kallappa was a hard worker and had a blemish-free career. The fact that we stay in tiny Janata quarters is  evidence of his honesty. It is unfortunate that his senior officers hatched a conspiracy against such an honest officer, driving him to end his life,'' they added in the complaint, urging the police not  to give in to political  pressure and arrest Mr Babu after filing an FIR against him.

But whether the police will consider the fresh complaint by Kallappa's parents seriously remains unclear as the CID  is already investigating his suicide.
