Kozhikode: The district administration has cleared a ropeway in Wayanad Ghats connecting planes.  A meeting held by the district collector, U.V. Jose here, decided to submit a project report to the state government with the clearance of the forest department and power ministry. The dream project, promoted by the Wayanad Chamber of Commerce (WCC) with the support of the District Tourism Promotion Councils of both Wayanad and Kozhikode districts, is expected to be a booster for tourism.

Kolkata-based Damodar Ropeways and Infra Limited had conducted a preliminary survey for the project. It found the air distance between the two ends one at Lakkidi in Wayanad and the other at Adivaram is 3.16 km.  The estimated cost is about Rs 70 crore. It will now prepare a detailed project report (DPR).

"The distance can be covered within 10 to 15 minutes by ropeway," Mr Jose said.
"Experts say around 500 persons can move up in an hour on the ropeway." Wayanad Chamber of Commerce general secretary E.P. Mohandas and George M. Thomas MLA were also present.
