Hyderabad: In a wonderful initiative and a gesture that the elders ought to emulate, four students of Standard XII called on IT Minister K.T. Rama Rao and presented a cheque for `1 lakh towards the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.

Vishruth Devireddy and Shreya Goparaju of Chirec Public School and Rohan Reddy and Shivani Talluri from Oakridge Public School raised funds by organising a Halloween Party on October 31.

Of the Rs 5 lakh proceeds they collected, they donated Rs 4 lakh to cancer foundation, Impact. Lauding the initiative of the students, the minister motivated the students to realise that there was a needy world out there which was yearning for such God Samaritans.

The minister exhorted the students to identify the areas that interest them and explore the needs of society and choose whatever drives them to get going.

Underscoring the importance of eco-friendly surroundings, he said
students should adopt some areas for cleaning, some lakes for clearing water hyacinth and check whether the sewerage treatment plants (STP) in their respective communities were fully functional. He further said that onus was also on the government to ensure that mosquito-breeding was contained.
