Seven injured as omnibus capsizes on Kovai bypass

According to police, the incident took place around 5 am as the driver lost control of the vehicle.

The police have also arrested the driver, Rasool Raja, 42 and son of Noor Muhammed of Kovilpatti, of the cement-laden lorry that caused the accident.

Coimbatore: As many as seven passengers were injured when an omnibus capsized near All India Radio station on L&T bypass in the early hours of Wednesday in suburbs of Coimbatore. According to police, the incident took place around 5 am when an omnibus from Bengaluru heading to Kochi with 16 passengers, suddenly capsized near Vadakku Thottam as the driver lost control of the vehicle. 

Leo, 38, native of Bengaluru was driving the bus and hearing the cries of passengers, motorists passing by that stretch rescued and admitted them in nearby private hospitals.The injured passengers were identified ad Sanjay, 25, from Thrissur, Nesaya 29, Jothy 30, Vivin Mathew, 23, from Kottayam, Edwin 25, Aneesh 24 from Kochi and Adhul, 22, from Palakkad. On receiving information from members of the public Chettipalayam police came to the spot, provided further assistance to the passengers Police's preliminary investigations revealed that the bus driver had applied sudden break in high speed to avoid hitting a speeding lorry heading towards the bus.

As it was drizzling on Wednesday early hours, the bus driver applying sudden break could have resulted in the bus skidding off the road, felt a police official. Further investigations are on.
