Chennai: An IT firm in Kanthanchavadi on OMR, Chennai’s IT corridor, went through harrowing time on Tuesday night following a bomb threat that turned out to be a hoax.

Police sources said that the anonymous caller phoned the company at around 10: 30 pm on Tuesday and claimed that there was a bomb planted in the building. The call created a flutter in the IT firm.  When the security department put out an alert that there was a bomb in the building, about 1,000 people who were at their work stations was alerted and a  near stampede followed as the building was evacuated.

Following this, the police were alerted immediately. A team reached the spot with bomb detection and disposal squad and sniffer dogs and carried out the search in the 13-floor firm. The personnel searched the premises for three hours but found no bomb as warned. Police suspect that it could have been the handiwork of someone else and trying to trace the source of the call.  Further investigation is on.

The IT staff’s panic is understandable as there have been reports that Pakistan-based LeT terrorists had infiltrated into TN to carry out attacks.
