Chennai: Sri Lanka minister of education Velusamy Radhakrishnan who was in the city on Tuesday said the MGR centenary celebrations would be held in a grand manner in Kandy, the birthplace of former Chief Minister M. G. Ramachandran on September 16.

“Deputy Chief Minister (O. Panneerselvam), school education minister (K A. Sengottaiyan, VIT founder-chancellor and several others would participate. This function will help to foster friendly ties between India and Sri Lanka,” he said. Speaking to reporters here Radhakrishnan said Sengottaiyan would donate about 1.05 lakh books to the Jaffna Public Library on September 18. 

On the Katchatheevu, he said the issue should be amicably resolved through negotiations.
