Hyderabad: 400 excise staff submit affidavits

Hyderabad: Nearly 400 staffers of the prohibition and excise department has submitted affidavits as a counter to the decision taken in 2012 by the then government on withholding their promotions.

After a probe taken up against a liquor syndicate in 2012 by the ACB under the supervision of the then ACB chief Bupathi Babu, the vigilance and enforcement department had launched an investigation into the role of excise staff in the scam.

The enforcement team had identified nearly 400 staffers who were encouraging illicit liquor, belt shops, illegal wine shops, toddy and illegal foreign liquor sales across the state.

Based on the report, the government ordered a probe and after enquiry, the government decided to withhold their promotions.
