Chennai: Moms rejoice girl children’s birth

Chennai: An exciting statistics released on July 11, observed every year as World Population Day shows that times are changing for the better. A quick count of the day's births in multiple hospitals shows that the number of girl babies born in the city on Thursday outnumbered boys.

A more exciting aspect about this is that almost all families that DC interacted with said that they were mighty thrilled about having a  girl child.

Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, Kokila, a mother who gave birth to her second girl child on Thursday, says,” I am extremely delighted and feel very proud for having given birth to two healthy,beautiful baby girls. I am content and have opted for tubectomy. I do not want to try again for a boy child.”

 “We have found that daughters take better care of their parents. Most sons disappear into their wives' pallu, immediately after they get married. On the other hand, our daughters are always there for us through thick and thin,” quips in Gomathi merrily.

 Government Raja Sir Ramaswamy Mudaliar (RSRM), Royapuram, Institute Of Child Health and Hospital for Children, Egmore, Kasthuri Bai Gandhi government hospital, Triplicane, and a number of corporation hospitals in the city are bearing the entire cost of delivery along with providing mothers with a number of beneficial schemes.  

These hospitals perform tubectomy free of cost, have trained counsellors to counsel mothers undergoing the surgery and also provide the mothers with a healthy, nutritious diet during their stay at the hospital.
