Hyderabad: A B Tech student was killed and his two friends were injured when their vehicle rammed a road divider and turned upside down at Banjara Hills road number 3 on Tuesday afternoon.

One of the severely injured has been admitted to hospital while  another victim, who sustained minor injuries, escaped from the spot fearing police.

The victim, Fasahath Ali, 20, a second year B. Tech student and a resident of Lotus Pond, Jubilee Hills, was returning to college after a break with his friends, Danish Javid, 20, a second year BBA student and Md Waiz, a second year B. Tech student, when the accident occurred. All three were students of Muffakham Jah College of Engineering and Technology in Banjara Hills.

According to the police, the three had left the college at around 1 pm to have food at a restaurant on Road No 3. They set out in Fasahath’s car, a Hyundai i20. However, they changed their plan and went to have ice-cream at a parlour near Harley Davidson showroom. “From the parlor, the three were in a hurry to return to college and Fasahath was driving so fast that he lost control over the wheels.  As they reached the curve near the TV9 Channel office near Reddy Labs, he lost control of the vehicle when he was trying to overtake a slow moving auto rickshaw. The car rammed the road divider and then somersaulted over the divider on to the opposite side,” said D. Hareesh Reddy, Sub Inspector from Banjara Hills.

“Fasahath, who was driving the car, suffered a grievous head injury when his head hit the car door and roof multiple times during the crash. He died inside the car before getting any medical help. Javid, who was sitting next to him in the front seat, fractured his hand. He was moved to a private hospital in Barkatpura. Waiz, who was in the rear seat, got minor injuries, maybe because he was wearing a seat belt. He is still missing, we need to meet him and ask what had happened,” said the SI.

Police said that the car belongs to Jahangir Ali, father of Fasahath Ali. “Jahangir apparently allowed Fasahath to take the car to his college,” said the SI.

A case under section 304 A of the Indian Penal Code, pertaining to negligence causing death, was booked by the Banjara Hills police.
