2 of Chennai family die in Salem car crash

On information, fire and rescue services personnel rushed to the accident spot to put out the fire.

SALEM: Tragedy struck a family of four from Chennai when the car in which they were travelling to their relative’s place in Salem caught fire after it crashed into the side wall of a bridge at Thulakanur near Athur on the Chennai-Salem national highway on Saturday.

Police said that the family members, Parthiban, 49, employed in Dubai and who was on a vacation visit to Chennai, his wife Kavitha, 42, and their two daughters, Darshini, 19, and Deeksha, 14, were proceeding towards Salem to call on Parthiban’s mother-in-law, when the terrible mishap took place. Parthiban was driving the car.

On information, fire and rescue services personnel rushed to the accident spot to put out the fire. But Parthiban and Darshini had already died on the spot. Kavitha and the younger daughter, seriously injured in the mishap, were rushed to the Salem Mohan Kumaramangalam government hospital.

The bodies of Parthiban and Darshini were retrieved and sent for autopsy at Athur government hospital. Police are investigating.
