SBI announced felicitation of online and over the counter payment of stamp duty, registration fee and e-SBTR across all its branches in Maharashtra.

Kochi: A section of traders in the state has threatened to boycott the SBI for its decision to impose service charges for most banking operations.

SBI has been engaged in imposing service charges for most services with the sole intention of improving its income, said Kerala Merchants Chamber of Commerce president V.M. Yousuf and general secretary K.M. Mohammed Sageer.

The chamber also stated that the government should facilitate the e-payment of taxes through other banks in the state. The merger of SBT with SBI has resulted in SBI alone becoming a payment gateway for e-payment of taxes for traders, they said. This is unacceptable as SBI is extracting services charges for e-payment, they added.

If the government fails to take steps to include other banks for the e-payment the traders will not pay taxes as a mark of protest, the two leaders said.
