Physically challenged woman killed as hut catches fire

Machilipatnam: A 60-year-old physically challenged woman was killed when her hut was gutted in fire at Machilipatnam town in Krishna district on Thursday.

The woman, identified as P Venkata Ramana, lived with her husband and children in a hut near Zilla Court Centre here, police said.

Their hut caught fire from a candle that was lit on Wednesday night. While her husband and children managed to come out, the woman was seriously burnt and died on the spot, Chilakalapudi Circle Inspector B Janardhana Rao said.

A case has been registered in this regard and investigation is underway, he said.
