71.81 per cent cast vote in Krishna

Vijayawada Central and East constituencies registered 65 per cent polling.

Vijayawada: Krishna district registered polling percentage of 71.81 per cent till 6 pm.

The highest voter turnout, 84 per cent, was registered at Kaikaluru followed by 80 per cent in Pamarru, 78 per cent in Tiruvuru, 76 per cent each at Avanigadda and Gudivada and 75 per cent in Pedana and Jaggaiahpet constituencies.

Nuzividu registered 73 per cent polling till 6 pm. Gannavaram, Machilipatnam and Penamaluru registered 72 per cent poll percentage.

Vijayawada Central and East constituencies registered 65 per cent polling. The least number of voters, 60 per cent, turned up to cast their votes till 6 pm in Mylavaram.

In several polling booths, polling was extended as voters were waiting in queues by 6 pm.

In Gudivada and Jakkampudi, polling is continuing at 9.30 pm and according to reports, it may go on till midnight as nearly 2,000 voters were still waiting to cast their votes, while another 1,500 persons were waiting in queue at Jakkampudi village.

As the EVMs had malfunctioned at the time of commencement of polling, the start of voting was delayed.

The final poll percentage will be known on Friday, poll officials said.
