Hyderabad: A huge public rally that had been planned at Parade Grounds, Secunderabad on April 29 by the Golla/ Kuruma community to thank Chief Minister K.Chandrasekhar Rao for the distribution of lakhs of sheep to them and for the implementation of various welfare schemes for the development of their communities, has been cancelled. The meeting was planned with the help of the state government.

However, the Defence Ministry has rejected permission to hold the meeting at the Parade Grounds.

Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav, who was given the task of holding the meeting, said that the Defence Ministry did not give permission to use the grounds citing legal issues after some residents approached the court against a religious meeting held earlier. The government planned the rally as a show of strength among the communities engaged in hereditary-based occupations, ahead of the 2019 elections.
