Nizamabad: Poll code sets in, flexis, banners removed from public spaces

Nizamabad: The district administration has begun removing flexies, posters and advertisement boards of political parties from government and private places in Nizamabad district.

With the model code of conduct in place, the Election Commission has directed officials to remove campaigning material within 24 hours from government offices, 48 hours from public places and 72 hours from private places.

Publicity material with photos of candidates, details of government schemes and so on will be removed. Statues of political leaders will be covered during this period.

Speaking to newsmen, collector M. Rammohan Rao, who is also the district election officer, said that the government departments should submit reports of schemes and tenders details of works immediately.

Government employees also come under the purview of the Election Commission. Without prior permission, district officials are not allowed to leave their headquarters.

Mr Rammohan Rao said, “The Election Commission is monitoring the election process and officials are asked to act accordingly. Elections rules and regulations should be followed. We have already conducted preparatory meetings for Parliament elections in the district”.
