Kochi: In a first of its kind, the feeder auto-rickshaws of Kochi Metro will issue tickets to commuters. The decision was made at a high level meeting of Kochi Metro Rail Limited, officials of the police and motor vehicles departments and the coordination committee of the auto drivers in the city.

KMRL managing director A.P.M Mohammed Hanish convened the meeting on Monday to discuss the mode of operation of share- autos, the feeder service of metro. The meeting also decided to put up fare charts in all autos.

Ernakulam Auto Rickshaw Drivers Co-operative Society is operating the feeder service.

“The attempt to issue tickets is to bring transparency and accountability, and will bring about a change in the way the commuters and auto rickshaw drivers treat each other," Mr Haneesh said. He urged the passengers to demand tickets from the feeder auto drivers.

The meeting also decided to conduct joint inspections by a team of Police, KMRL and auto drivers’ society along the metro corridor to identify pick up points for feeder autos. The pickup points will be earmarked without disturbing the vehicular traffic.
