HYDERABAD: Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao will launch the second phase of the ‘Kanti Velugu’ programme from January 18 in Khammam, health minister T. Harish Rao said, directing district officials to complete necessary arrangements.

In a video conference from Khammam, Harish Rao directed collectors and district medical health officers (DMHOs) to start eye examinations, distribute spectacles and supply medicines to primary health centres. He directed officials to contact Sweta Mohanty, the commissioner of the family welfare department, in case of an issue.

He directed the creation of WhatsApp groups at the district level for coordination and for the personnel to post updates at 9 am and 4 pm every day. The minister said campaign programmes should be organised in each village to create awareness among people, and directed officials to ensure software used for screening is working.

Harish Rao said that the first phase of Kanti Velugu was completed in eight months and this time the aim was to complete it in 100 days. For this, the number of teams has been increased from 827 to 1,500. Camps will be run at 16,533 locations — 12,763 rural and 3,788 urban.

As part of the programme, the government has decided to provide 30 lakh reading glasses and 25 lakh prescription glasses for free to the needy.
