Hyderabad: City Police Commissioner CV Anand has launched a branch-wise review in the Hyderabad commissionerate and said the Special Branch (SB) should operate as the ‘eyes and ears’ for the top cop.

“About three days ago, I reviewed the SB for four hours in their Purani Haveli office. Officers gave PPT presentations about their work and achievements in dealing with group quarrels and disputes. Issues facing the city police were also discussed,” he said.

The police chief said he advised the officers that the intelligence gathered by them should be actual, real-time and quick. Not only should the happenings in the society be watched and reported, and also keep a watch on police stations and office sites to see whether the police is doing their job. I told them I shall fill vacancies in various ranks. The use of binding over sections 107 and 110 of the CrPC and other powers in addition to the PD Act to keep rowdy gangs in check was also discussed,” the commissioner said.

The special branch is led by joint commissioner Viswa Prasad, OSD Goverdhan and additional DCP Muthyam Reddy.

On Tuesday, Anand reviewed the commissioner's task force at their Secunderabad office, wherein the heads of five teams submitted PPT presentations on their performance. The commissioner praised OSD Radhakishan and DCP Gummi Chakravarthy and their teams for the excellent detection of tough cases. The requirements of additional manpower, resources and vehicles were brought to the commissioner’s notice.
