DGP inaugurates traffic police station at Rayachoti (DC)

Anantapur: The newly sanctioned traffic police station and also SDPO office at Rayachoti, district headquarters of Annamayya district was launched on Monday by DGP Rajendranath Reddy. The sub division office was previously a part of Pulivendula. The new office was set up at the recently formed new district headquarters of Annamayya district.

The DGP said the traffic police station was very important among the 14 police stations in the Rayachoti subdivision. The building has been built with assistance from the corporation. The SDPO office would now operate from the new building.

"Some of the lanes and bylanes in Rayachoti town are narrow and traffic is heavy. Therefore, a traffic police station building with modern facilities has been built on an area of about 1.5 acres. The new traffic police station has been upgraded. Soon, the SIs will be promoted and CIs will be appointed to the 100 upgraded police stations,” the DGP said.

He said the final results of the Sub Inspector recruitment process would be released soon. The release was delayed in view of the case pending in court.

Rayachoti town is among the big  municipalities in the erstwhile Kadapa district. Hundreds of vehicles from nearby villages travel to Rayachoti town for their daily needs, business, etc. Due to traffic congestion in the town, chief minister Y.S Jagan Mohan Redddy initiated the process to upgrade Rayachoti to a separate sub-division.

The sub-division was formed in 2020 with the inclusion of eight mandals: Rayachoti, Lakkireddypalle, Ramapuram, Galiveedu, Chinnamandyam, Sundupalle, Sambalpalle and Veeraballi.

On Dec 24, 2019, during his visit to Rayachoti town, the chief minister allotted Rs 2 crore for construction of a traffic police station and Rs 1.5 crore for the construction of the SDPO office. The construction began in August 2021.

The traffic police station building is located on a one-and-a-half-acre plot with a total built-up area of 5,082 sq-feet. The building has all the necessary facilities for the staff, including a rest room, a road safety counseling centre and parking for over 600 bikes and 50 cars.

The SDPO office building is located on a one-and-a-half-acre plot and has a total built-up area of 3,648 square feet. The ground floor has 1,824 square feet and houses the SDPO office, as well as a women's counseling centre.

The first floor has an area of 1,824 sq-feet and houses the SDPO's residence. The six mandals of the erstwhile Chittoor district, namely Pileru, Kalakkad, KV Palli, Gurramkonda, Vayalpadu, and Kalikiri have been brought under the jurisdiction of the Rayachoti sub-division of Annamayya district.
