Amicus curiae help sought in Election Commission protection

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday sought the assistance of senior advocate Meenakshi Arora, representing the Election Commission in deciding a PIL  for a direction to the Centre to amend the Constitution to grant protection the two Election Commissioners from arbitrary removal.

A three-judge bench and D.Y. Chandrachud passed this order on a plea filed by advocate and BJP leader Ashwini Kumar Upadhyaya who submitted that the two Commissioners shouldn’t be removed from office.
