Hyderabad: Old database helps spot serial stealer, arrested

Hyderabad: The database of old offenders helped the Cyberabad police apprehend a man involved in stealing gold and silver articles from a temple at Shamshabad.

The RGI airport police on Thursday arrested Dhanraj, a habitual offender, and recovered 130 gms of gold, 200 gms of silver and a bike from him.

During a vehicle checking in Shamshabad, a biker who did not have documents for the vehicle he was on was taken to the police station. When the police ran his fingerprints in the criminal database, they identified him as Sai Dhanraj, 26, a resident of Suraram village, an old offender, who has been involving in theft cases since his early teens.

The Cyberabad police said that Dhanraj was first arrested in 2009 by the Asif Nagar police in a case of theft and was sent to a juvenile home. Later, he was arrested by the Jeedimetla and Cheriyal police, in 2016, for similar cases. After release from jail, he worked as an electrician but could not meet his expenses and again resorted to theft.

On questioning, he confessed to committing offences including a theft at a temple and a chain snatching at Medak. Based on his confession, about 130 gms of gold, 200 gms of silver ornaments and a bike have been recovered and the accused produced before a court for the judicial remand, said the police on Thursday.
