GHMC seeks nod for multilevel flyovers

The Telangana state board for wildlife has also given the green signal.

Hyderabad: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is in a fix over the construction of multilevel flyovers around KBR Park. GHMC has sought to government’s opinion on constructing the flyovers or to scrap the contract to avoid further legal complications. 

Under Strategic Road Development Project (SRDP) GHMC has proposed eight flyovers at four junctions KBR Park entrance, Film Nagar, Road Number 45 junction and Maharaja junction. 

The district tree protection committee has given its nod for felling trees and translocation. The Telangana state board for wildlife has also given the green signal.

However, the Hyderabad district Forest Officer (DFO) has put some conditions before the GHMC. The DFO has asked the civic house to furnish the month-wise requirement of tree felling/translocation. The DFO has also asked the GHMC to provide a fee for raising compensatory plantation. The civic house is also asked to immediately replant trees as per the TS Water, Land and Trees Act. GHMC in a letter to the state government, has sought the state government's approval to go ahead with the construction of flyovers.
